New Brunswick is the largest of Canada’s three Maritime provinces. It is located under Quebec’s Gaspé Peninsula and beside the State of Maine. The province was one of the first provinces, along with Ontario, Québec and Nova Scotia, to join together to form the Dominion of Canada in 1867.

New Brunswick has experienced immigration from all over the world on a small scale, and today boasts a varied and increasingly multicultural population. Being relatively close to Europe, New Brunswick was among the first places in North America to be explored and settled, starting with the French in the early 1600s. In 1785, Saint John became the first incorporated city in Canada. The same year, the University of New Brunswick became one of the first universities in North America.
